Seeing Is Not Believing

I begin my day with a daily bible reading.  Right now I am reading from Portals of Prayer and I would like to share todays devotion with you.

-Read John 4:46-54, Psalm 121

We tend to think that the eye is more trustworthy than the ear.  Yet faith comes not from what we see, but from the Gospel, which is heard.  Jesus' first miracle was the changing of water into wine at Cana.  The Lord is back in Cana again.  In contrast to the festive setting of a wedding jeopardized by a depleted supply of wine, an official comes to Jesus with a more pressing supplication for his dying son.  Jesus will speak a word of promise that heals the child.  But before He does, He addresses a faith misplaced in what can be seen.
Signs can be deceptive.  In Exodus, Pharaoh's magicians performed miracles more impressive than those done by Moses.  Paul complained of Jews who seek signs.  Jesus warns of false prophets who work wonders.  Things are not always as they appear.
Signs are not the ground of faith.  God's speaking gives us certainty.  Jesus says: "Go; your son will live".  The official goes home, as one theologian put it, "with only a word in his pocket."  This is how our Lord deals with us.  In the midst of our sin and death, He causes His words to be proclaimed.  Faith learns how to live without signs and wonders.

Faith is being sure of what you hope for, and certain of what you do not see.  Hebrews 11:1

I pray you have a moment of faith today that brings you closer to the one who loved you first.

The Sweetest Love

My name is Renee Clark and I am new to blogging.  My blog title is one that I hold dear to my heart and I believe with every ounce of my being.  I am a singer/song writer and my title comes from the title and lyrics of one of my songs.  Truthfully when I started writing this song, it was to my husband but realized as I got deeper into writing, the truth became clear who it was for. I want to share this song with you so you may better understand who I am.

The Sweetest Love

Many times I have fallen, into the wrong of this world.
Jealously and anger, fill the center of my life.
Why can’t I lose the evil within my heart?
Why can’t I be who You want me to be?
Take this life and rescue me.

And the sweetest love, that I’ll ever see
Is standing there in front of me.
No matter how long it takes,
I will prove my love.
Cause without You my life’s incomplete.

Why can’t I see, Your love for me.
Pride and my power trap me in and tear me deep.
To where I should not lead life to be.
Take all of me and change my ways.

And the sweetest love, that I’ll ever see
Is standing there in front of me.
No matter how long it takes,
I will prove my love.
Cause without You my life’s incomplete.

If I could look beyond the black and the white,
And see my Lord standing by my side every day.
Life would be so easy, knowing You will never leave me.
I will break these chains and let Your love flow through my veins.
You are the only life I’ll live.

And I won't be afraid to love the Lord.
I won't let this world pull me down.
You won't let life fail on me.
Because in the end I will be troubled
If I've miss what You've planned.

And the sweetest love, that I’ll ever see
Is standing there in front of me.
No matter how long it takes,
I will prove my love.
Cause without you my life’s incomplete.
And the sweetest love that I’ll ever see.
Could only be You.
